The installation of Domestic,Commercial and Industrial Electric Vehicle Charging (EV)

The government’s 2022 commitment to allocate £1.6 bn. to further expand the UK’s charging network – with about 300,000 public chargers expected to be available by 2030 – means the industry needs competent installers. The City & Guilds 2921-31 course has been designed to standardise practices for manufacturers, suppliers and installers. The course reflects the future requirements of this exciting new industry by helping to reduce the risk of unsafe and inefficient practices.

This Electric Vehicle (EV) charging qualification is designed to give a fundamental understanding of the design, installation, testing, inspection, commission and maintenance of single electric vehicle charging equipment in both domestic and commercial settings.

Course Description

Designed for electricians who want to develop and expand their existing skills to include the installation and maintenance of single electric vehicle charging – this qualification will give you a fundamental understanding of the design and installation of both domestic and small commercial electric vehicle charging equipment.

Typical examples include:

16 A (3.6 kW) and 32 A (7.2 kW) single-phase units

11 kW and 22 kW three-phase units

PLEASE REMEMBER: It is advisable for every student to have a copy of the following three books as these will be referenced throughout your course:

The IET Code of Practice for Electric Vehicle Charging Equipment Installation, 5th Edition

Requirements for Electrical Installations, IET Wiring Regulations, 18th Edition

IET On-Site Guide (BS 7671:2018+A2:2022 18th Edition

Assessment will be an online multiple-choice test plus a short answer question paper and scenario-based questions.
